I’ve been wearing glasses or contacts since I was eight years old. I kept hearing good things about LASIK and how great people can see after so I decided that its finally time and I want to do it. I’ve done lot of research on it and that might be the bad part. Their are alot of websites reporting negative information about LASIK. There is so much negative information about it that it’s almost propaganda. Everyone I have personally talked to have had great results or close to great results, but reading about it on the internet makes it sound like Frankenstein science. This site rips LASIK. Reported complications are dry-eye, seeing halos, glare or starbursts, or a worsening of vision. 95% of patients report satisfaction while 5% do not. I was going to get it done because I’m tired of wearing contacts and I hate contacts ever worse, but after reading all the horror stories I’m pretty concerned. Dry-eye sounds horrible as does not being able to drive at night, albeit those complications would be much better than going blind. This site has quite a few people complaining about dry-eye. My eye’s are pretty dry as it is so now Im confused as hell, I guess it could wait. Plus my eye eye doctor gets a $1000 referral for referring me, how wonderful for him.

I got Lasik six years ago, and my understanding is that it has improved tremendously since then. I was told that the side-effect of dry eyes was virtually 100%, but I have never had any dry eye problems at all. The halos appeared only around lights at night for about two weeks or so, which they also warned me about in advance. Six years later, I’m still thrilled with the results.
I am in my 50’s have had to wear ”coke bottles: since arond the age of 7, then opting for contacts when turning 18. I would not even consider LASIK even though my doc always mentions it during visits, with the risk factors you mention and the fact that I am happy with contacts why risk it? Now if it was safely performed at an earlier age for me like in my 20s I would have said hell yeah! They have made great progress with it and boast a greater success rate nowadays. Good luck!
My uncle had Lasik some time ago and to my knowledge he doesn’t have any problems with his. He still doesn’t wear glasses or anything so I assume his is still good
It like any surgery always has the people that have complications.
I would love to get lasik too someday. Or I might wait to get some Monkey eyes first.
