I’ve been using Twitter alot. You can see my twitter here. It’s a very cool site and its starting to grow by leap and bounds. I’m hearing more and more chatter about it. So I’m starting to wonder how long until the spammers take it over.
Just about everything has been spammed that has traffic. Most notably off the top off my head would be Yahoo chat rooms, MySpace and it looks like more each day for Facebook. But I can see Twitter having one of the largest problems with spam if controls aren’t put in very soon to prevent it. I won’t go into details how to spam Twitter cause that might educate some blackhats lol.
Currently people are spamming it already but more in a informative way that I think none of us really mind. Such as “I updated my blog check it out www.blahblahblah.com”. This isn’t really a big deal because most of the time its informative and we chose to follow them.
I’d imagine it’s only a matter of time before spammers start phishing Twitter accounts and posting to all the followers. Probably the biggest saving grace would be that you can simply unfollow someone to avoid the spam. It would also be easy to detect the spammers by how many followers they have.
